This application is for the Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation. The process on this page is for:

  • recent graduates
  • seasoned practitioners
  • BCACC student members who are ready to apply for registered membership
  • counsellors registered or licensed in other jurisdictions

For returning members: If you are a former BCACC registered member, please email [email protected] to request a membership reinstatement package.

Please watch this video about the application process.

To apply for registered membership, complete steps 1 through 6. Once all steps have been completed, your application will be assessed and assigned for review (“Pending Review”).

The application fee is $200. The application fee is non-refundable.

Once you pay your application fee, you will not be able to log in and change your application details. Ensure that your application is correct and complete before you submit your application. If changes must be made, please email your changes or updates to [email protected].

You can monitor your application status and the documents received for your file here.

Note: The onus is on the applicant to arrange for the documentation required for the membership application. BCACC staff do not request documentation on behalf of applicants.

Prepare a resume, with details of your academic qualifications, counselling training and relevant work experience. You will upload this resume into your online application in the next step.

Order transcripts for all course work listed on your application. Transcripts must be sent directly to us from the institutions.

  • BCACC must receive a convocated master’s degree transcript. This official transcript issued directly by the school to our office will show the master’s degree granted to you and the date the degree was granted.
  • We will accept certified electronic transcripts sent from the university by email to [email protected].
  • We will accept official transcripts mailed from the university to our office address noted below.
  • If you listed undergraduate coursework in your application then you must order transcripts that show that completed coursework.
  • We will not accept sealed transcripts from the applicant.

Review and provide reference forms to clinical supervisors and/or colleagues. Reference forms must then be sent directly to us from the Referees.

  • If you have two Clinical References, you do not need a Colleague Reference.
  • You can arrange for as many clinical references as you need in order to meet the requirement of 100 hours of clinical supervision, as noted on the Eligibility page.

Order letters of good standing from any regulatory bodies with which you are currently or were formerly a member.

  • Letters of good standing are not required for student memberships.
  • For registration purposes, we are unable to accept screen shots of membership or registration search results.

Please allow up to 4 weeks for documents to be added to your application file. If you do not see a document in your file, please contact the school or the referee first to find out more information about any delays. Incomplete reference forms, unsigned reference forms or incorrect information will cause delays.

A typical application process can take approximately 16 weeks from start to finish; however, this timeframe can vary.

To be fair to all applicants, and due to the volume of documentation received, application processes cannot be expedited.

What happens next?

Once your application is complete, we will update your application status to “Pending Review”. The review process for a typical application takes approximately 6 weeks.

If your application is complex, your file may be referred to the Registration Committee and you will be advised of any deadlines for your file. Your application might be complex if:

  • You have completed your degree outside of Canada or the United States
  • Your broad base counselling coursework is ambiguous
  • Other reasons as decided by the BCACC Deputy Registrar

Once your application has been reviewed, we will advise on the outcome of that review by email and will provide further instructions for your application.

Criminal Record Check

If your application is accepted, BCACC will request a criminal record check result current within 6 months. Details will be provided at the time of the request.

Allow up to 2 weeks for this criminal record check result to be reviewed.

If you would like to discuss information that may be disclosed during the criminal record check process, please contact our office by phone.
